Solid Hardwood Flooring
Hardwood flooring has a lot to offer. It’s durable, it looks great, and certain types can be refinished when they do begin to show wear and tear. Hardwoods have been used for what seems like forever, making them a great option in a variety of circumstances.
True hardwoods like Brazilian cherry, teak, and hickory grow more slowly and therefore tend to be a little more expensive. Softer woods like pine, black cherry, and fir grow more quickly, which keeps them at the more affordable end of the spectrum. However, as the names suggest, the harder the wood, the more durable the flooring will be.
Our consultants are ready to help further explain the options and find a good match for your needs and budget. We will work with you to learn more about your lifestyle, how much traffic the floors will see, what cleaning options you prefer, and your color palette for your home. Knowing how you are going to use your floors will help us guide you in deciding which type you will love the most.

Maybe you already have hardwood floors, but they’re looking a little worn. Or maybe you no longer care for the color, and you are looking for an updated look. Talk to us about your hardwood refinishing options. Depending on the type of hardwood flooring you have, we may be able to sand them down and refinish them, saving you money over replacement flooring. We offer complimentary consultations on all our services, including refinishing.
Engineered Hardwood Flooring
When we talk about engineered wood flooring options, we are talking about a product that is largely made from composite materials. These composite materials can be plywood, fiberboard, or even scraps of other hardwoods. The composite material is then covered in a thin veneer of true hardwood.
Engineered wood floors offer several benefits, including being more affordable than their true hardwood counterparts. They can also be less susceptible to warping because of the way they are constructed. However, engineered wood floors cannot be refinished since the veneer is too thin to account for the sanding process.
Engineered hardwood is more environmentally-friendly than true hardwoods, which can be an important factor in some clients’ decision-making process. When manufacturers cut the veneer, they slice it. This means no sawdust, which means no wasted wood. Also, as we noted above, true hardwoods are slower-growing. By using just a thin covering instead of making the entire flooring out of the hardwood, we use less of this important resource.
A newer flooring option, luxury vinyl is making a big impact on the industry. It is completely man-made and offers extreme durability. It can also be made to look like a variety of other materials, including wood and stone. Make no mistake, luxury vinyl is a big improvement over the vinyl flooring from your grandparents’ era. The design options with luxury vinyl are extensive, and the finished product looks great.
Luxury vinyl comes in individual pieces. The tiles are generally square, while the planks are long thin rectangles. It is waterproof and it comes in different installation options, including gluing and snapping together. As an added bonus, we can install it directly over several other types of flooring. This can save you money in labor costs to remove the old flooring.
Tried-and-true laminate flooring is still a viable option for many situations. As with the LVT and LVP products, manufacturers can make laminate flooring look like a variety of other materials. Laminate flooring options include a nearly unending array of wood tones and textures. It is also waterproof.
Where luxury vinyl is flexible, laminate flooring is rigid. It is made of wood byproducts, like the core of engineered hardwood flooring options. The difference is in the top layer, which is printed to mimic the look of a more expensive product.
Laminate flooring is less expensive and more eco-friendly than even engineered hardwood (since no actual hardwood is used in its production). It is a durable option, and it can be a great solution for high-traffic areas like children’s playrooms and family rooms. Laminate flooring usually snaps together and “floats” over your subfloor. This means installation is relatively quick, with no need for any adhesives.
When it comes to comfort, it’s hard to beat carpet. It warms up a room in a way hard surface flooring cannot, and it even acts as an air purifier by trapping allergens and dust. It also absorbs sound, which makes it a popular choice for bedrooms, family rooms, and kids’ play areas.
Color and texture options abound within the world of carpet. From low-pile nylon to cut-loop wool, we are happy to discuss the merits and drawbacks of each. Depending on the room you are looking to purchase carpet for, we may recommend certain types over others. For example, nylon is inexpensive, but not very stain-resistant. Cut and loop carpet is more expensive, but it hides dirt better than a lot of other options.
Carpet installation is relatively fast as well. However, carpets do require regular professional cleaning to ensure those allergens and any stains are removed fully. Carpet will also show wear in high-traffic areas, so you will want to select a type that can handle lots of use. We carry many different brands and textures, and we are an authorized Shaw dealer.
